Peer Support & Mentor Program
This program connects individuals with a “veteran” of a life experience involving ABI known as the Mentor with a “Partner” who is coping with a similar ABI related situation who is in need of support. The role of the Mentor is to provide support, share information and resources with Partners who are coping with a similar ABI-related situation. These situations may occur at various points post injury. Most of the mentoring will be conducted over the telephone (some by e-mail), making it possible for anyone in Ontario to participate.
Mentors have been trained to:
- Offer a listening ear as you sort through the effects of ABI on your life
- Share their experience in coping with injury
- Share strategies and resources that worked for them
- Support you while you figure out the strategies that might help you
The Peer Support Program is open to all adults (16 years and older) who have sustained a brain injury, or have a family member, partner,or friend who has sustained a brain injury.
